Fox wins Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League tourney
By Mike Giles, The Meridian Star
Angler Tim Fox of Meridian won the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Mississippi division tournament on the Columbus Pool of the Tombigbee River last Saturday. He had a five fish limit weighing 13 pounds 9 ounces. The victory earned Fox $3,705 and moved him into 5th place on the angler of the year list for the division.
Fox is now one step closer to qualifying for the Wheeler Lake Regional which will be held in Decatur, Alabama, Oct 9 - 11. Top prize in that tournament will be a new 198 VX Ranger Boat and Chevy Truck.
Fox won the BFL event on Columbus Pool back in 2005, and by winning another on one of the toughest days of the year proved it was not a fluke. Only 15 limits were caught on the boater side and none on the co-angler side. That’s 15 five fish limits of 12” bass out of 250 anglers. And that makes for some mighty tough fishing.
Wesley Wheat caught four bass weighing 5-13 and came in 3rd on the co-angler side. Mark Sullivan of Collinsville came in 15th in that division.
My Fluorocarbon Experience
by Jim "Vicious Customer"
I have been using fluorocarbon lines for about 18 months. Being retired, I normally bass fish 3-4 days a week weather permitting, so I do put lines to the test. Also, being retired I tend to watch what I spend on fishing tackle. I primarily fish a lake that is covered with Salt Cedar and Mesquite brush. Because of this I use fairly heavy lines in the 14-20 lb test for mono and fluorocarbon. ::--Read More--::
Dear Vicious,
On May 25, 2007 My father was attempting to leave the house and meet up
with our bass club for a tournament on Lake Guntersville. He hooked the boat
to the truck and pulled it out of the garage like he had done hundreds of
times before. He thought he put the truck in park and exited the truck to
close the garage door and put the motor in tow position. The truck was in
reverse and it ran over my father.
He lost his life that morning. My father
was a great man and I learned so much from him. Most memories are of fishing
with him, because one thing that I could count on as a child was fishing
every Saturday. As you can imagine, I was devastated on the day this
occurred. The only thing I could think to do was a Bass Tournament in my
fathers memory and donate the money to his Church's building fund in his
name. I am still not sure of all the details on how Vicious found out about
the tournament, but fishing line, stickers, and hats were donated for
participants of the tournament.
I just want to say thank you for all you
have done.

Stay Or Go
By Richard Newell, Vicious Tournament Team Member
In the world of competitive fishing a question will eventually arise during a tournament when the action is painfully slow or non-existent. Should I stay or go? I know guys who will give a spot twenty minutes and if they don't get a bite, they're gone. If you have better water then the spot you're leaving why did you start there in the first place?
If your confidant the fish are there but they won't bite, don't leave in too much of a hurry. Try a few of these techniques and maybe you'll catch those fish you found in practice. The number one thing I can tell you is to slow down. The excitement of a tournament the first few minutes after you pull into your spot will sometimes get to you and make you fish much too fast. You try to pull out five quick fish, instead of working one fish at a time. ::--Read More--::
Swim Bait Bassin
By: Steven W. Wells Vicious Team Member
Swim Bait's are not just for West Coast anglers to throw at trout gorging bass. I've found that they are dynamite on the East side of the country as well.
It was foggy out and I could barely see the lure at the end of my line. I made a long cast with the huge bait and it splashed down next to the tree line I was fishing. I started a slow steady retrieve with my Quantum Energy E760PT. I could feel the bait throbbing as I slowly ticked the tops of the bottom growing weeds.

For over 20 years, Davis Bait Company, has produced only the highest quality products for the fishing

Stephen Browning testing out Fluorocarbon
Slow rolling a spinnerbait in cold water is one of my favorite techniques. While using these technique a use a 7 ft medium heavy St. Croix rod, a 6.1:1 gear ratio reel and a fluorocarbon line in either 15 or 20 pound strength. The important thing to remember is that some bite are hard to detect. With the medium heavy rod and the fluorocarbon line the odds of detecting the strike is greater. I used Vicious Fluorocarbon for the first time and caught this 12lb 5oz giant in 14 feet of water while fishing in heavy standing timber. The fish got around plenty of junk and to my amazement the 15lb Vicious Fluorocarbon line showed very little abrasion. I didn't even retie. I wanted the line to prove to me it was worthy of being my choice. After two more 4lb class fish and still not retying, I gained a huge amount of confidence in the Vicious Brand. It will be what's on my reel. Promise!! ::--See More Photos--
